"There, with them, I’m enough. I’m not too quiet, too weird, too shy, too wrong, too much of anything. I’m precisely enough."

When I was a child, I didn’t have much to say. Perhaps that’s why I was drawn to the horses. They didn’t have much to say either. We could enjoy each other’s company, without ever speaking a word.
This has followed me into adulthood. To this day, I still find my happiest moments, when I’m sitting somewhere on this big, blue globe, surrounded by horses and nothing else but silence.
There, with them, I’m enough. I’m not too quiet, too weird, too shy, too wrong, too much of anything. I’m precisely enough.
Do you know what I love about photographs? It's the secrets they hold.
You take a look at this capture and may think: "Wow. She was in the right place at the right time."
And while that is true in it's own sense, what you don't see is the backstory of how I ended up there. In a glen in the highlands of Scotland, surrounded by curious Highland ponies.
I've dreamt of these images for 6 years. You read that right. It's been 6 years since I visited Scotland for the first time, and this was my fourth trip.
I like to think of it as I really needed to get to know the country and it's inhabitants, before I could be presented for the beauty and secrets it hold (and truly appreciate it).
If I had visited Scotland for the first time, went out in a paddock and shot a magnificent shot, I of course would've been thrilled.
But the whole freaking 6 years of dreaming and researching and doing and trying. That's what makes these photos truly special to me.
